so I passed my VCP 5 exam yesterday

Just like v4, it was a doosie, but a fair exam. A few very strange questions and nothing about the new licensing (which I couldn't believe!), but overall a decent representation of the product. Hopefully VMware sticks with the 85 questions, 90 minute format for future exams because it helps keep the exam and the resulting certification valuable.

...make sure you configure the service in the Failover Cluster Manager first. SQL 2008 automatically does this for you...2005, not so much. You need to create the service first and rename, then add the storage. During the SQL '05 install you'll check choose this service you just created.

I didn't know by default time syncing between a VMware host and the VM takes place at certain times

I thought having the "Synchronize guest time with host" box unchecked was enough but apparently syncing also takes place when:

- VMware Tools daemon is started
- Resuming a VM from a suspend operation
- After reverting to a snapshot
- After shrinking a disk

In order to prevent any syncing you need to edit the .VMX file of the VM. That's a good reason to keep the host time up-to-date and, ultimately, setup NTP.

Apparently me going through this VCP5 blueprint throroughly is working.
